HARRISONBURG, Va. – Brenya Reid had 23 kills and James Madison volleyball overcame a 2-1 deficit to take down defending Sun Belt Conference champions Coastal Carolina 18-25, 25-16, 16-25, 25-22, 15-12 on Friday evening inside the Convocation Center.

In a rematch of the 2023 Sun Belt Championship, JMU (9-8, 4-3 SBC) trailed 6-2 in the fifth set before storming back for its first win over Coastal Carolina (8-10, 4-3 SBC) in three tries. The Dukes finished with a season-high 11 service aces and added 10 blocks for their first win trailing 2-1 in sets since Nov. 4, 2022, at Marshall.

Along with her 23 kills, Reid registered 13 digs for her fourth double-double in her past six matches while adding three aces and blocks. Senior
Jaydyn Clemmer recorded a season-high 29 digs and four aces and
Annie Smith (12) and
Sarah Schnell (10) chipped in with double-digit kills.

Coastal's Jalyn Stout notched her NCAA-leading 10th triple-double of the season, finishing with 17 kills, 19 assists, and 14 digs.

How It Happened
First Set: Coastal Carolina 25-18
- The visiting Chanticleers raced out to a 16-9 lead on an ace from Stout.
- The Dukes rattled off a 5-1 run to force a CCU timeout with the score 17-14.
- JMU got to within three (21-18) on a block from Savanah Cockrill and Schnell, but the Chanticleers pulled away for a victory in the first.

Second Set: James Madison 25-16
- The Dukes quickly flipped the script in the second, jumping ahead 7-3 on a trio of aces from Reid.
- Coastal battled back to tie the score at 11-11 on a Schnell attacking error but JMU pulled ahead 18-14, aided by three kills from Reid.
- The Chanticleers trimmed the JMU lead to 19-16 but the Dukes stormed to a triumph in the second set with a 6-0 run.

Third Set: Coastal Carolina 25-16
- The see-saw affair saw Coastal gain a 7-2 edge early in the third.
- The Chanticleers gained a commanding 16-16 advantage on a kill from Emily Fowler.
- While the Dukes tried to make things interesting, Coastal took a 2-1 sets lead as Stout closed things out with a kill.

Fourth Set: James Madison 25-22
- The Chanticleers were the first to 15 as the visitors pulled ahead 15-12.
- CCU could not hold off JMU as the Dukes grabbed a 20-19 lead on an attacking error from Stout.
- The Dukes scored four in a row to reach set point with the score 24-19. The Chanticleers staved off three set points before a service error gave JMU the fourth.

Fifth Set: James Madison 15-12
- Coastal quickly jumped ahead 6-2, which prompted a JMU timeout.
- An ace from Smith and a Rebecca Watkins dump set cut the Dukes' deficit to 8-7 before CCU called a timeout.
- The Chanticleers edged ahead 11-10 on a Valentina Varani termination, but the Dukes scored five of the last six points of the set to take the come-from-behind victory.
