STATESBORO, Ga. – James Madison volleyball fell 21-25, 11-25, 22-25 to Georgia Southern at Hanner Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon in a Sun Belt Conference tilt.

JMU slipped to 10-10 overall and 5-5 in conference play while Georgia Southern improved to 17-2 and 7-1 in league action. The Eagles hit .261 and held the Dukes to a .149 hitting clip.

Brenya Reid led the Dukes with 15 kills while also adding six digs.
Rebecca Watkins recorded a double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs, whileÂ
Savanah Cockrill tallied five blocks, the most for the senior since Aug. 31.

Paige Powers paced Georgia Southern with 14 kills, while Reagan Barth recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 17 digs.

How It Happened
First Set: Georgia Southern 25-21
- Georgia Southern recorded a pair of aces to jump ahead 12-6 and force a James Madison timeout.
- Smith picked up a solo block to trim the Eagles' lead to four (17-13).
- Four consecutive points gave JMU its first lead of the set (20-19), which prompted a Georgia Southern timeout.
- A solo block from Cockrill gave the Dukes a 21-20 edge, but the Eagles rattled off five straight to close out the first.
Second Set: Georgia Southern 25-11
- Georgia Southern raced ahead 17-6, which forced a JMU timeout.
- The Dukes could not climb back into the set, as the Eagles hit a blistering .577 with 16 kills while JMU mustered a .095 hitting clip.
Third Set: Georgia Southern 25-22
- JMU stormed ahead 18-16 with four consecutive points.
- After the Dukes went ahead 21-20, a pair of JMU attacking errors and an ace from Mayte Camacho gave the Eagles the 23-21 edge.
- Reid notched a side-out kill to make it 23-22 but kills from Lydia Seymour and Powers gave Georgia Southern the victory.
Match Notes
- Reid has not notched double-digit kills in her last nine contests and leads the Dukes in kills (221) and kills per set (4.20) this season.
- Watkins' double-double was her fourth of the season.
- Julia McNeley finished with 10 digs, the eighth time in the past nine matches she has eclipsed double figures.
