DUKES CLOSE NON-CONFERENCE SLATE WITH MIDWAY (KY.)
Following an eight-day break for Christmas, James Madison men's basketball returns to action to host Midway University (Ky.) on Sunday, Dec. 29 at 5 p.m. ET inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
JMU enters this contest with a 6-6 record, while Midway sits at 3-6. The Eagles compete in the River States Conference and are 3-6 in 2024-25. Most recently, Midway fell 116-60 to Cleveland State on Sunday, Dec. 22.
The game will stream on ESPN+ and can be heard on the radio on WSVA 92.1 FM | 550 AM and also on the Varsity Network App with Dave Riggert, with coverage beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET.
This game will serve as the last non-conference game for the Dukes until the second leg of the MAC-SBC Challenge, where JMU will travel to a team to be determined on Saturday, Feb. 8.
Following this game, JMU will remain at home for a pair of Sun Belt games the following week: Southern Miss (Jan. 2) and Arkansas State (Jan. 4).
LAST TIME OUT
James Madison fell, 77-49, at South Alabama on Saturday, Dec. 21 to open Sun Belt Conference play.
The Jaguars shot 51.8 percent from the floor and forced 15 JMU turnovers, scoring 24 points off the Dukes' miscues.
As a team, the Dukes shot a season-low 29.1 percent from the floor.
Myles Corey led South Alabama with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting while leading the Jaguars in assists (7).
Barry Dunning Jr. scored 16 points, as 10 South Alabama players contributed to the scoring effort.
The 49 points for JMU is the lowest output for the Dukes since scoring 55 in the 2024 NCAA Tournament against Duke and the first time scoring less than 50 points since scoring 48 at Towson on Feb. 25, 2020.
JMU AT HOME
Dating back to the opening of the Atlantic Union Bank Center before the 2020-21 season, JMU owns a 48-15 (.761) record in home games.
This season, the Dukes are 4-1 at home with their only loss coming to George Mason (66-61) on Friday, Nov. 29.
In 2023-24, JMU finished 14-1 at home, its only loss coming to App State (59-55) on Jan. 13.
The loss to George Mason on Nov. 29 snapped a 20-game non-conference home winning streak for JMU, dating back to a Jan. 3, 2021 loss to Morgan State (80-73).
ABOUT MIDWAY
Midway comes to Harrisonburg with a 3-6 record. The Eagles compete in the River States Conference, the same league as Alice Lloyd - the alma mater of Head Coach Preston Spradlin.
Midway sits second in the RSC in points per game (85.9) fourth in three-point field goal percentage (36.7). The Eagles are led in scoring by Amari Wales, who is scoring 16.5 points per contest. Nick Keeton is shooting 64.7 percent (22-34) from the floor and has played in eight games, while guard Decoreio Smith has started all nine games and is second on the team in points per game (15.1).
The Eagles are led by Head Coach Akeem Scott, who is in his second year at the helm. In his first season at Midway, his team set a single-game record in made three-pointers (16) vs. Brescia on Dec. 2, 2023. The Eagles eclipsed 100 points in four games, which also was a school record.
Scott's previous stops include a season at Montgomery County High School (2022-23) as an assistant coach. He also served as the head men's basketball coach at Kentucky Christian University from 2017-22. He led the Knights to the Elite Eight of the 2018 NCCAA DII Men's Basketball Championship.
This season, Midway has played two Division I opponents. The Eagles fell 116-60 to Cleveland State on Dec. 22 and 101-60 to Bellarmine on Nov. 26.
PARKING Reserved Parking
All parking pass holders — both Spot-Specific and Reserved — will enter through the North Entrance of the Ballard Parking Deck. For those entering through the North Entrance, all parking is reserved and first-come-first-serve. There will be no spot-specific parking available for doubleheaders.
General Parking
Accessible via the South Entrance of the Ballard Parking Deck as well as the adjacent surface lots (C12, D3, and R4), general parking is available beginning two hours before game time. General parking is free of charge, available on a first-come, first-served basis, and cannot be reserved in advance.
