DUKES CLOSE JANUARY WITHÂ CHANTICLEERS THURSDAY NIGHT
- Following a 2-0 road trip, James Madison men's basketball returns to Harrisonburg to battle Coastal Carolina on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.
- The game will stream on ESPN+ with Curt Dudley (PxP), Kirby Dean (color), and Cece Evans (sideline). Dave Riggert will call the game on WSVA 92.1 FM | 550 AM and the Varsity Network App, with coverage beginning 30 minutes before tip.Â
- JMU sits at 12-9 and 5-4 in the Sun Belt, while Coastal Carolina is 8-13 and 1-8 in league games. The Chanticleers have lost six straight games, its last win a 70-51 triumph over ULM on Jan. 4.Â
- The Dukes won their first two road games of the season last week, taking down Old Dominion (74-60) and Georgia State (86-79).Â
- This game will serve as the annual Coaches vs. Cancer game, where both JMU and Coastal Carolina coaches will wear Suits & Sneakers to support the fight against cancer.

- JMU and Coastal Carolina have met five times, with the Dukes taking all five previous matchups.Â
- As Sun Belt opponents, JMU has won four games against CCU and are 5-0 against the Chanticleers all time.Â
- The first meeting between the two programs took place on Jan. 8, 1987 - where the Dukes won 110-95 in Harrisonburg.Â
- Last season, JMU defeated Coastal 105-67 on Feb. 1 at home and closed the regular season with an 86-76 win over the Chants in Conway.Â
DUKES GET IT DONE ON THE ROAD
- After starting the season winless in its first six road games, JMU picked up a pair of road victories over Old Dominion (74-60) and Georgia State (86-79) last week.Â
- In their two wins, the Dukes averaged 80.0 points per game and shot a combined 55-of-105 (.524) from the floor along with 18-of-45 (.400) from deep. Bryce Lindsay made his first two career starts and averaged 17 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 12-of-20 (.600) from the field and 5-of-13 (.385) from behind the arc. Lindsay leads the Sun Belt in three-point percentage (.424) as of Tuesday, Jan. 28.Â
- Mark Freeman scored 33 points (16.5 per game) and 10-of-18 (.556) from the field while also finishing a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line to help ice each win.Â
- JMU is now 10-1 when scoring more than 70 points this season and 9-1 when finishing better than 45 percent from the floor. The Dukes 25-of-46 (.543) against ODU last Wednesday and 30-of-59 (.508) against Georgia St.

- Coastal Carolina enters this contest with a record of 8-13 (1-8 SBC). The Chanticleers have lost six straight games and are just 2-9 in road games this season.Â
- CCU is coached by Justin Gray - who is in his first season leading the Chants. He spent the previous three seasons as the head coach at Western Carolina - where he accumulated a record of 51-47 (.520). He improved his win totals every season, going from 11 in 2021-22 to a 22-10 mark in 2023-24.Â
- Coastal's leading scorer - Rasheed Jones - averages 12.7 points per game. Jordan Battle (11.1) and Noah Amenhauser (10.5) are the other CCU players in double figures.Â
- In Sun Belt play, CCU ranks last in scoring offense (65.7) and 13th in scoring defense (77.3). The Chants have been outscored by an average of 11.7 points per game, worst in the league. As a team, CCU is shooting just 40.6 percent as a team while opponents are shooting at a 46.3 percent clip.Â
- Opponents are also shooting 38.4 percent from behind the arc against Coastal, the worst 3-point defense in the league. The most threes allowed in a single game was Arkansas State, who made 16-of-30 in a 97-67 win on Dec. 21.Â

- James Madison men's basketball improved to 28-3 (15-3 SBC) with a 86-76 win over Coastal Carolina.Â
- Terrence Edwards Jr. finished with 18 points and six assists on 7-of-11 shooting to pace the Dukes in both categories. Michael Green III (16) and Raekwon Horton (14) combined for 30 points off the bench and Julien Wooden recorded 11 points.Â
- JMU shot 30-of-57 (.526) from the floor and made 11 threes. JMU led by as many as 21 points in the game, and while Coastal trimmed the lead to seven (74-67) with 4:14 remaining, the Dukes held on for the victory.Â

- James Madison men's basketball tied a season-high 13 made threes and shot 50.2 percent from the field in an 86-79 win over Georgia State on Saturday afternoon at the GSU Convocation Center.
- Bryce Lindsay led all JMU (12-9, 5-4 SBC) players with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting and five rebounds, while Xavier Brown added 17 points and four boards.
- Five Dukes finished in double figures, as Mark Freeman added 17 points and three assists while helping ice the game from the free throw line late. Additionally, Elijah Hutchins-Everett and Noah Williams each added 11 points to help JMU shoot 30-of-59 (.508) from the floor.
- Defensively, the Dukes forced 11 turnovers including nine steals and blocked six Panther shots. AJ Smith swatted a career-high three blocks and also tied a career-best four steals. Ebenezer Dowuona also had three blocks and Brown tallied three steals.
- Cesare Edwards led Georgia State (7-14, 3-6 SBC) with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while Toneari Lane (19), Nick McMullen (15), and Jelani Hamilton (14) also reached double figures. McMullen led the Panthers with nine rebounds, while guard Malachi Brown dished out nine assists.
- JMU improved to 10-1 when scoring 70 points or more and 7-3 when making 10 or more threes in a game this season.
- The Dukes' 13 total threes are the most in a game overall since they also made 13 versus Utah Valley on Dec. 7.

- All parking pass holders — both Spot-Specific and Reserved — will enter through the North Entrance of the Ballard Parking Deck. For those entering through the North Entrance, all parking is reserved and first-come-first-serve. There will be no spot-specific parking available for doubleheaders.

- Accessible via the South Entrance of the Ballard Parking Deck as well as the adjacent surface lots (C12, D3, and R4), general parking is available beginning two hours before game time. General parking is free of charge, available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved in advance.
