DUKES HOST COPPIN STATE ON SUNDAY
- Fresh off a win against Washington & Lee on Wednesday, James Madison is set to host Coppin State on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.
- Tip-off inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center is set for 1 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+ with Curt Dudley (PxP)Kirby Dean (analyst), and David Hulvey (sideline).
- JMU enters with a 1-1 record, while Coppin State is 0-2 with losses to Maryland and La Salle. The Dukes dropped their season opener on the road at Akron.

- Gabe Newhof and Justin McBride combined for 32 points, and James Madison men's basketball won its first game of the 2025-26 season, downing Washington & Lee 70-56 on Wednesday night at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
- Newhof finished with 20 points to lead all scorers, as the senior also corralled eight rebounds.
- McBride finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Paul Jones III chipped in eight points off the bench, knocking down a pair of triples.
LOCKING DOWN THE BANK
- The Atlantic Union Bank Center has been the home of James Madison men's and women's basketball since the 2020-21 season. In that span, the JMU men are 58-16 (.780) at home and 22-5 (.814) against Sun Belt opponents.
- JMU finished the 2024-25 campaign with a 13-2 record inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center, only losing to George Mason (66-61) on Nov. 29 and App State (58-50) on Jan. 18.
- In 2023-24, JMU finished 14-1 at home, its only loss coming to App State (59-55) on Jan. 13, 2024.
- Since the Atlantic Union Bank Center opened in 2020, the Dukes are also 28-3 against non-conference opponents. The loss to George Mason was JMU's first at home against a non-conference team since Jan. 3, 2021 against Morgan State (80-73).
BROWN THE SHOT BLOCKER
- JMU freshman Christian Brown has proved to be a force around the rim in the first two games.
- Brown has registered 11 blocks, which leads the NCAA. The 6-foot-8 forward had seven blocks against Akron and four versus Washington & Lee.
- The seven blocks against Akron are tied for the third-most by a JMU player in prorgram history and most for a JMU freshman since Alvin Brown also had seven against Longwood on Feb. 22, 2010.
NEWHOF MAKING IMMEDIATE IMPACT
- In his first home game in a JMU uniform, Gabe Newhof finished with 20 points and eight rebounds, going 8-of-9 from the floor.
- Newhof, who played three years at NAIA Spring Arbor University, finished with 20 or more points for the 60th time in his career and first as a Division I player.
SERIES HISTORY VS. COPPIN STATE
- James Madison and Coppin State have met six times in a series that dates back to 1991. JMU holds a 4-2 lead.
- The last meeting between the schools came on Dec. 19, 2023, where JMU dominated Coppin State 87-48,
- Four Dukes scored in double figures as No. 20 JMU improved to 11-0. The Dukes forced 30 Coppin State turnovers.
- T.J. Bickerstaff led all JMU scorers with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Terrence Edwards Jr., added 16 points and four steals. Julien Wooden pitched in 13 points and six rebounds and Noah Freidel added 10.

- Coppin State enters this game with an 0-2 record after losses to Maryland and La Salle.
- A pair of Eagles were selected to the preseason All-MEAC team in Khali Horton (First) and Taj Thweatt (Second).
- Through two games, Horton leads Coppin in scoring with 11 points per game. Thweatt and Tyler Koenig are averaging seven boards per game, while Daveyon Lydner leads the Eagles with 2.5 assists per game.
- The Eagles are just 11-of-45 (.244) from behind the arc this season, while opponents are shooting 18-of-45 (.400).
