DUKES BEGIN SUN BELT PLAY WEDNESDAY AT OLD DOMINION
- James Madison men's basketball is set to open Sun Belt Conference play with a road tilt at Old Dominion on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 8 p.m.
- This game will serve as the first for JMU since defeating Norfolk State 68-67 on Dec. 6. The Dukes enter this contest with a 7-4 record and have won two straight.
- ODU sits at 3-8 this season after falling to George Mason 73-61 on Saturday, Dec. 13. This wil be just the fourth home game of the season for the Monarchs inside Chartway Arena, with ODU holding a 3-0 record in those games.
DUKES DOMINANT IN ROYAL RIVALRY SERIES
- While ODU holds a 58-35 lead in the all-time series, JMU has dominated the series since joining the Sun Belt and over the last 15 years.
- In men's basketball, the Dukes have won nine straight against the Monarchs - dating back to the 2018-19 season. As Sun Belt opponents, JMU has won seven in a row against ODU and is 4-0 in road games at Chartway Arena.
- Adding in football (4) and women's basketball (12), JMU has won 25 straight games against ODU dating back to the 2010-11 season.

LAST TIME ON THE COURT
- Justin McBride scored a career-high 33 points to lead James Madison men's basketball to a 68-67 win over the Norfolk State Spartans on Saturday, Dec. 6.
- McBride's 33 points came on 12-of-21 (.571) shooting, knocking down three 3-pointers and adding eight rebounds. He is the first JMU (7-4) player to score 30 since Mark Freeman had 34 against Troy on March 9.
- The 33 points is the most for a JMU player in the Atlantic Union Bank Center (since 2020-21), surpassing the previous mark of 32 points, which was scored by Vado Morse against Charleston on Jan. 22, 2022.
- Bradley Douglas and Gabe Newhof each scored the 2,000th point of their careers, finishing with six and five points, respectively. Douglas also led the Dukes with six assists as JMU finished with 13 assists to just eight turnovers.
- Three Norfolk State (4-6) players finished in double figures, as Elijah Jamison and Devon Ellis each had 17 points to lead the Spartans. Keyontae Lewis also added 13 points, while Jordan Leaks recorded 10 rebounds.
JUSTIN MCBUCKETS
- James Madison junior forward Justin McBride is enjoying a breakout campaign, leading the Dukes with an average of 17.3 points per game - which ranks third in the Sun Belt.
- McBride has scored in double figures in 10 of 11 games played, which includes four 20-point games and a 33-point outing against Norfolk State on Dec. 6.
- As of Sunday, Dec. 14, McBride is the only player in the country averaging more than 15 points and five rebounds per game while shooting greater than 50 percent from the floor and from three (min 2. made).
- His 20-point games include 21 against Towson (11/18), 26 against FIU (11/24), and 24 against Omaha (11/25), along with his 33 points against Norfolk State.
- This season, he is shooting 51.2 percent (64-of-125) from the floor and 22-of-44 (.500) from behind the arc.
- On Tuesday, Dec. 3, McBride became the first JMU player since Bryce Lindsay in November 2024 to be named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week. McBride earned the award by averaging 22.7 points and 6.7 rebounds over three games that week, shooting 53.7 percent (22-41) from the floor and 9-of-16 (.563) from three-point range, as JMU went 2-1.
