ORLANDO, Fla. – A near decade old school record was broken by James Madison to highlight the first day of the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Swimming & Diving Championship on Wednesday afternoon at the Rosen Aquatic & Fitness Center.
JMU and Marshall each won an event to end day one in a tie for first place at 74 points each, with the events during the afternoon including the 200 Medley Relay and the 800 Free Relay.
The 800 Free Relay record for JMU was broken by the team of
Madison Wimmer,
Jess Pryne,
Jamie Cornwell and
Grace Bousum, as they won the gold medal. The quartet combined to swim a time of 7:13.16, besting the old record of 7:13.51 that was set in 2016.
To begin the championship, the Dukes finished second in the 200 Medley Relay by just 13-hundreths-of-a-second. The quartet of
Sarah Pauley,
Riley Bridgman,
Ann Chappell Ellington and
Alex Volk swam a time of 1:40.21, marking the second fastest time in program record. The JMU 200 Medley Relay record was set at last year's conference championship.
All eight splits tonight were each respected swimmer's fastest ever.

The second day of the Sun Belt Championship continues tomorrow, Feb. 20, with swim prelims beginning at 10 a.m., diving prelims and consolations starting at 1 p.m. and finals for all events to finish out the day at 6 p.m. The events being featured on day two are the 50 Free, 500 Free, 200 IM, 200 Free Relay and 3-meter board.
