DUKES HOST TROJANS IN CRITICAL SUN BELT MATCHUP
- James Madison men's basketball will wrap up its three-game homestand with a matchup against the Troy Trojans on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.Â
- JMU has won four consecutive games, its last being a 68-54 win over Old Dominion on Saturday, Feb. 1. Troy is coming off an 87-50 thumping of ULM on Saturday and has also won four straight - all at home.Â
- Troy is 5-4 in road games this season and 3-1 in Sun Belt road contests. The Trojans defeated App State 69-61 on Jan. 2 in Boone, Marshall 58-57 on Jan. 4 in Huntington, and ULM 77-58 in Monroe on Jan. 15. Its lone loss on the road in conference play came at the hands of South Alabama (64-63) on Jan. 18.Â
- In the Sun Belt standings, Troy sits second with an 8-3 mark while JMU is a game behind at 7-4. The Dukes are tied with South Alabama, App State, and Marshall in the standings, while Troy is alone in second place.Â
- The game will be on ESPN+ with Curt Dudley, Kirby Dean, and Charlie Niber. Dave Riggert will call the game on WSVA 92.1 FM | 550 AM and the Varsity Network App, with coverage beginning 30 minutes before tip.Â

- James Madison and Troy have played two times, most recently in the 2023 Sun Belt Quarterfinals, where JMU won 75-72 against the Trojans. Sophomore guard Terrence Edwards erupted for 27 points while Graduate Takal Molson tallied 15 points, eight boards, and four assists while graduate Alonzo Sule and junior Noah Freidel each had 10 points.
- The other meeting between the two schools came on Jan. 19, 2023, where the Dukes won 89-87 in overtime. This will be the first time Troy has trekked to Harrisonburg for a game.Â

- Troy enters this contest with a 15-7 record, including a 8-3 record in Sun Belt play. The Trojans recently won 87-50 over ULM at home, marking their fourth straight victory.
- Troy is led by Head Coach Scott Cross, who is in his sixth season at helm for the Trojans and 18th overall in his career. Cross led Troy to the only league program with back-to-back-to-back 20-win seasons and the only Sun Belt program with 10-plus league wins in three consecutive seasons.
- Tayton Conerway leads the Trojans and is 19th in the Sun Belt in points per game, averaging 12.8 this season. He is second in the league in assists per game with 5.0 and sports a 1.8 assists/turnover ratio. Thomas Dowd is averaging 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting 40.5 percent from the floor.
- As a team, the Trojans are third in the league in field goal percentage (44.6), fourth in rebounds per game (38.3), and second in offensive rebounds per game (13.9). Troy also leads the league in rebounding margin (+6.0)

- Sophomore guard Terrence Edwards Jr. erupted for 27 points and James Madison held off a hard-charging Troy team on its way to a 75-72 win in the Sun Belt Men's Basketball Quarterfinals at Pensacola Bay Center on Saturday, March 4.Â
- The Dukes (22-10) saw a double-digit second-half lead trimmed to as few as one in the frantic final minute, but held off the push and limited Troy (20-13) to just 38.7% (24-62) shooting on the afternoon, including a 5-26 mark (19.2%) from the three-point line.
- The Dukes led for nearly 33 minutes, including the entire second half, but a 10-2 run from Troy in the final three minutes cut the JMU lead to just one before Freidel ripped down his only rebound of the game and hit a pair of free throws with 6.5 seconds left.
- After entering the game fourth in the country in bench points per game (32.81), the Dukes' bench outscored Troy's 42-5.

- James Madison won its fourth straight game, using defense and balanced scoring to cruise past Old Dominion 68-54 on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
- Three JMU (14-9, 7-4 SBC) players reached double figures, led by Mark Freeman's 17-point showing. Bryce Lindsay (14) and Elijah Hutchins-Everett (13) also scored 10 or more while the Dukes held Old Dominion (10-13, 6-5 SBC) to 34.0 percent (18-of-53) from the floor and held the Monarchs to just eight offensive rebounds.
- The Dukes finished with 13 offensive rebounds and scored 19 second-chance points, compared to just eight for ODU. AJ Smith led the Dukes with nine rebounds and Hutchins-Everett had eight.
- Sean Durugordon led ODU with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Robert Davis Jr. – the Monarchs' leading scorer – finished with just 10 points. Jaden Johnson led ODU with seven assists.
- JMU won its ninth straight game against Old Dominion. Since joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2022-23, the Dukes are 7-0 against the Monarchs.
