Dukes Victorious Against Binghamton and Radford in Tournament Opener

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Four home runs and clutch pitching gave James Madison softball an 8-0 run-rule victory over Binghamton and a 3-2 come-from-behind win against Radford, on day one of the Lakeside Book Company Tournament at Veterans Memorial Park on Friday night.
Payton List and Cali Legzdin went a combined 7-for-10 (.700) on the day, with three home runs and five RBIs. Legzdin had the tying solo home run for JMU (8-9) in the sixth inning of game two against Radford, (9-14) while List hit one to the opposite field for a two-run shot against Binghamton (11-6) and delivered another in the first inning of game two.
Reed Butler also had a home run and three RBI, including the go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the sixth against Radford, aiding the Dukes to their victory.
Kirsten Fleet earned her fourth win of the season against Binghamton, holding the Bearcats scoreless through four innings and fanning five in the run-rule win.
Madalyn Johnson came on in relief for List against Radford and was firing on all cylinders, striking out four, giving up just two singles in 3.1 innings out of the bullpen to earn her first collegiate win.
Brianna Santos and Grace Hogie paced Binghamton and Radford, respectively, each with two hits against the Dukes on Friday.

- Abbie Campbell scored on a throwing error by the Binghamton catcher for the 1-0 lead
- Runners were on second and third for Legzdin, who legged out an RBI infield single to give JMU the 2-0 edge
- Butler sent a 3-1 pitch to right center for a two-run shot, doubling the lead for the Dukes, 4-0
- Legzdin was in scoring position for Campbell, who drilled a double down the left field line to make it 5-0
- List followed up with a two-run opposite field home run, for the 7-0 advantage on the Bearcats
- Sanders drilled a pinch-hit home run to cap off the run-rule victory

- List delivered her second home run of the day, a solo shot, for an early 1-0 lead
- Following a JMU fielding error, Radford's Grace Hogie cashed in on an RBI single up the middle to tie the contest up at one apiece
- Jada Holt gave the Highlanders a 2-1 lead on a single to center field
- First pitch swinging, Legzdin ties the ballgame up at two on a home run to left center
- With List on second following a wild pitch, Butler gave the Dukes a 3-2 lead on a RBI single to right field
- James Madison improves to 12-1 all-time against Binghamton, including 11 consecutive victories and earns its eighth win against Radford
- JMU's 3-2 victory against Radford mark the first time this season the Dukes have won a game they trailed after five innings. Coming into the contest, the Dukes were 0-4 in games they were behind after five
- The Dukes have three shutout victories and two run-rule wins on the 2025 campaign. The last time the Dukes had three or more shutouts in a season, was 2023 when they shutout their opponents in eight games
- Following her performance on Friday, List leads the Dukes in slugging percentage (.800), runs scored (10), hits (18), runs batted in (10) and home runs (5)
- Abbie Campbell has five doubles on season, matching the most she had all of 2024, which was a career high. Five doubles also lead the team through the Dukes' first 17 games
- Sanders' pinch-hit home run against Binghamton was her first hit of 2025 and the second Duke to have a pinch-hit home run this season. Lexi Rogers hit a pinch-hit homer against Bucknell on Feb. 28 at the Hokie Invite
