HARRISONBURG, Va. – For the second straight week, a trio of James Madison lacrosse players have been named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Adanya Moyer earned Goalkeeper of the Week,
Reese Cuviello garnered Defensive Player of the Week, and
Olivia Matthews received Freshman of the Week.
This follows a 2-0 week for the Dukes, who played their final home games of the regular season, beating Liberty on Wednesday, 17-6, and South Florida on Saturday, 20-6.
Moyer earns her third weekly laurel of the season, as she continued her best year in the cage. In both outings this week, she limited two offenses both averaging over 16 goals per game to just six goals each, bringing her GAA down to 10.19 and upping her save percentage to .469 to lead the league in both categories. Moyer also held strong on free-position opportunities, holding Liberty to 2-of-4 and South Florida to 0-for-5. She also eclipsed 100 saves in her career against Liberty.
Cuviello collects her second weekly award as a defender, as she tallied two ground balls, three caused turnovers, and eight draw controls last week. She shined against South Florida especially in the circle, winning six draw controls for a career-high. She leads the team along with
Ava Main in ground balls with 21 each, and is second on the team in caused turnovers with sixteen total on the season.
Matthews' nod as Freshman of the Week is also the second of her rookie season. The attacker produced her best stat line of the season against South Florida, going for four goals, two assists, three ground balls, one caused turnover and one draw control. Against Liberty, she won five draw controls for a career-high while netting one goal and one assist. The native of Bedford, New Hampshire is tied for second on the team in draw controls (30) alongside Cuviello, and third in goals with 58.
Junior
Maddie Epke was also named AAC Honorable Mention after tallying six goals, two assists, two ground balls and one caused turnover for the week. Against South Florida, Epke won 16 draw controls, breaking the previous JMU single-season record of 178 draw controls which she set in 2024. The attacker holds 189 draw wins heading into the end of the regular season.
#11 JMU will play its final game of the regular season this week, traveling to Greenville, N.C. to take on East Carolina on Saturday, April 26. Opening draw is set for noon and will be streamed on ESPN+.
