Fleet Twirls Shutout As Timely Hits Down Chanticleers In Run-Rule Fashion

CONWAY, S.C. – Kirsten Fleet held the Coastal Carolina offense to just four hits, as James Madison softball put together eight runs on 10 hits to shut out the Chanticleers in run-rule fashion, 8-0 in five innings to take the series opener in Sun Belt Conference play at St. John Stadium on Friday night.

JMU (22-23, 8-11 SBC) cashed in early as a Coastal Carolina (35-14, 11-8 SBC) lead-off fielding error in the top of the second made way for a four-run inning for the Dukes, as they never relinquished the lead from there.

Lily Romero capped off the top of the frame with her first collegiate home run, a two-run shot into the greenery in left field. She finished the evening going 1-for-3 while tying her season-high three driven in, including the run-rule positioning sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth.

Payton List was responsible for the second home run of the contest, as her solo shot brought her to a team-leading 13 on the season, en route to her 16th multi-hit game of the 2025 campaign.

List has homered in all but one Sun Belt series through conference play this year.

The freshmen tandem of Raegan Wall and Cali Legzdin turned in stellar performances, as Wall earned the first three-hit game of her collegiate career, including a double and a run driven in. Legzdin notched a pair of hits, as she scored a career-high three runs and stole two bases, the sixth occurrence this season in which she has stolen two or more bags in a game.

Her two stolen bases put her at 20 on the year, the first 20-plus stolen base season for a Duke since Madison Naujokas stole 26 bags during the 2021 season.

Jasmine Hall and Madison Edwards also registered RBI doubles against the Chanticleers, as Edwards' put her in sole possession of the team lead at eight.

- With her double in Friday's ballgame, Hall needs two more to tie Jenn Chavez (2005-08) for 10th all-time in program history with 38 doubles. She is also one away from eclipsing 100 RBI in her career at JMU
- Hall is also 20th in program history with 153 hits after her RBI double in the second inning
