Donovan Burke signed his first professional contract, inking a deal with the Gateway Grizzles of the Frontier League as he made his debut over the weekend.

The lefty tossed three scoreless innings of relief against the Evansville Otters, striking out three while surrendering just one hit and one walk.

Spending five seasons at JMU from 2020-24, Burke appeared in 52 games with 23 starts spanning across 173.2 innings. He recorded a career 12-5 record with a 5.29 ERA, striking out 156 batters and notching 21 pickoffs.

The Leesburg, Va. native was a key part of the Dukes' return to regional play in his final season in 2024. Overall, he ended his career with a 7-2 record and 4.67 ERA while tossing 94.1 innings. He struck out 72 batters to 26 walks and had 11 pickoffs. During the Raleigh Regional, he threw 10.1 innings, surrendering seven hits, four walks and one run while striking out 11. He earned the win to send the Dukes to the regional final game on his way to being named to the All-Raleigh Regional Team.
