HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison Head Baseball Coach
Marlin Ikenberry has announced the addition of Tanner Biagini to the coaching staff as an assistant coach on Tuesday morning.
Â
"We could not be more excited for Tanner and his family to join our baseball family at JMU," Ikenberry said. "I've closely seen his ascension from college player to pro player to coach, gaining experience to bring a wealth of knowledge with him to our program. Tanner has proven experience in the recruiting world as well as developing hitters, and specializes in infield play."
Â
"I am excited and grateful to be joining Coach Ikenberry's staff and the baseball family here at JMU," said Biagini. "I would not have been the player I was nor the coach I am today without his help along the way. I want to thank my family for all of their support over the years. Especially my wife, she keeps everything together for us. We are excited to be joining the JMU and Harrisonburg communities.
Â
Biagini spent the 2025 season at Radford, serving as an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator. While at Radford, Biagini helped lead the Highlanders to their first appearance in the Big South tournament and their most wins since 2019. The Highlanders had four players honored by Big South in its end-of-season awards.
Â
"I want to thank Coach Guerra for my time at Radford, he taught me a lot in a short time and welcomed my family as a part of his," Biagini added.
Â
Prior to arriving in the Commonwealth, Biagini spent seven seasons at Towson where he served as assistant coach for the first four seasons before being promoted to associate head coach. While at Towson, he was in charge of developing the offense and the catchers and added the role of recruiting coordinator following the promotion to associate head coach.
Â
Biagini spent 2015-17 at Lafayette as an assistant coach before moving to Towson, working with the offense and catchers while also in charge of in-game defensive placement.
Â
He got his start in coaching in the college ranks in 2012, as he was Richmond's volunteer assistant coach until 2014. While at Richmond, he developed the catchers and infielders while working with all hitters offensively.
Â
During his career as a coach, he has aided in seven players getting drafted while coaching 26 all-conference selections, seven all-rookie selections, two scholar-athlete of the year recipients, two rookie of the year award winners and a CSC (formerly known as CoSIDA) Academic All-American.
Â
Before getting into coaching, Biagini was a four-year starter at VMI under Ikenberry where he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2010. He was a team caption for his final two years and was on the 2007 and 2010 nationally ranked VMI teams. In his junior season, he ranked sixth in single-season hits (74) and eighth in single-season at bats (216). Following his playing career at VMI, he spent two years in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, making it up to Class A short season.
