Lackey's Brace Leads JMU Past George Mason, 4-1

FAIRFAX, Va. – Sophomore Ginny Lackey notched a pair of scores as JMU women's soccer defeated George Mason, 4-1, at George Mason Stadium on Sunday night.
The Dukes improve to 2-1-1 on the year, while the Patriots still search for their first victory at 0-2-1. Alongside Lackey, redshirt sophomore Aleigha Arndt and freshman Audrey Orrock both registered goals for JMU, both of which were assisted by senior Abby Fisher. Also logging assists were Arndt, Lili White, and Avery White, all three earning the first assists of their respective careers. Scoring for George Mason was graduate Ariana Reyes, her first of the season.
Starting at goalkeeper for the Dukes was sophomore L. White, earning the first start of her collegiate career. She played the entire first half, making one save. Sofia DeCerb entered in relief for the final 45 minutes, making a save.

How it Happened
James Madison will return to Harrisonburg, where they will match up against William & Mary on Thursday, Aug 28, at Sentara Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.

How it Happened
- Lackey received a lead pass up the middle from Arndt and netted her first shot of the match to put JMU ahead in the second minute, 1-0.
- George Mason's Reyes sent a shot from the top of the penalty arc to equalize the match, 1-1, in the 24th minute.
- The James Madison attack turned up the pressure in the 57th minute, taking three shots and earning a pair of corners, but finding no success.
- In the 70th minute, Orrock scored with a header off a corner from Fisher to break the tie and put the Dukes in front, 2-1.
- In the 76th minute, a corner taken by Fisher was headed into the back of the George Mason goal by Arndt, extending the JMU lead to 3-1.
- After intercepting a pass from the Patriots' goalkeeper, A. White fed Lackey on the left side, who launched a shot that found the back of the net to put James Madison up by three scores in the 83rd minute.
- Tonight's victory marks the first time the Dukes have beaten GMU at George Mason Stadium during Coach Walters' tenure and the first time overall since 2009.
- The last time JMU won and scored four or more goals was on Sep 30, 2023, against Louisiana, where they defeated the Ragin' Cajuns in a 4-0 shutout in Lafayette.
