Reese Cuviello have been named American Conference Attack Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the conference announced on Monday.
The recognition marks JMU's first weekly awards of the season. Root secures her first-career Attack Player of the Week award, as Cuviello adds her third, winning the award twice as a freshman. Additionally, midfielder

Root, a sophomore, scored a career-high four goals against Virginia Tech and added three assists to help the Dukes grab their first victory of the season. On Saturday against UConn, Root contributed a pair of scores and two more assists secure JMU's second win of the week with a 13-11 triumph over the Huskies. The Guilford, Conn. natives' nine total assists through three games lead the American Conference.
Cuviello, a sophomore, tallied a caused turnover and two ground balls in JMU's 13-7 win against Virginia Tech on Wednesday afternoon. Against UConn, Cuviello forced five turnovers and scooped five ground balls, both career-bests, as the Dukes secured their second straight victory. The Fairfax, Va. Native has caused seven turnovers this season, ranking her second in the American.
The No. 22-ranked Dukes will hit the road this weekend to face off with Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y., on Sunday, Feb. 22. First draw is scheduled for 12 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
