PENSACOLA, Fla. – Fourth-seeded James Madison will face No. 2 Troy in the 2026 Visit Pensacola Sun Belt Women's Basketball Championship on Monday afternoon. The title game is slated for 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT) inside the Pensacola Bay Center, and will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
Â
JMU is the first team to appear in four consecutive Sun Belt title games since Middle Tennessee went to eight straight from 2003-2010. James Madison and Troy did not meet in the regular season and have never met in the tournament title game. The Trojans have three Sun Belt tournament titles (2021, 2017, 2016) while the Dukes have one (2023).
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE DUKES
- No. 4 JMU dominated the glass, winning the rebounding battle 45-16, and held top-seeded Georgia Southern to 36.7% shooting (18-of-49) from the field for an 81-53 victory on Sunday afternoon in the Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Championship semifinals, advancing to the title game for the fourth consecutive season.
- The Dukes scored 25 second-chance points, while not allowing the Eagles to come away with a single offensive rebound.
- Peyton McDaniel dazzled with 25 points on 10-for-20 (.500) with five rebounds and three steals, marking her fourth game this season scoring 25 or more. Ashanti Barnes posted her 11th double-double of the year, recording a stat line of 15 points and 10 boards. Bree Robinson finished with 10 points, while Zakiya Stephenson added nine points and six assists with just one turnover. Brianna McLeod played a key role off the bench, supplying nine rebounds, eight points, and two blocks off the bench in the win.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE TROJANS
- No. 2 Troy women's basketball punched its ticket to the Sun Belt championship game on Sunday afternoon in the Pensacola Bay Center with an 83-73 victory over No. 3 Arkansas State.
- Zay Dyer finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds for her 23rd double-double of the season and 15th straight. On her sixth rebound, Dyer joined the 1,000-rebound club at Troy, becoming the first player in Division I history and fourth all-time to join the 1,000-point, 1,000-rebound club. Before that, on her second rebound, she broke her own single-season rebound record with her 396th rebound.
WHAT'S AT STAKE?
- The Sun Belt title would be James Madison's second since joining the league in 2022 and its 11th conference tournament championship in program history. Moreover, it would give the Dukes their 14th appearance in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship.
- With a win, JMUÂ would become the first Sun Belt team to win the conference tournament as a non-top-2 seed since No. 3 Troy defeated No. 5 Louisiana, 78-64, in the 2017 title game.
- Additionally, the Dukes would be the first four-seed to capture the Sun Belt Championship since Troy did so with a 61-60 victory over No. 2 Little Rock on March 12, 2016.
