IRVING, Tx. – James Madison lacrosse attacker Payton Root and defender Reese Cuviello have been named American Conference Attack Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the conference announced on Monday.
Root secures her third Attack Player of the Week recognition of the season, receiving the award in back-to-back weeks. Cuviello earns her second weekly honor of the season and the fourth of her career.
Root, a sophomore, scored two goals and dealt three assists for five points against No. 24 Pitt. Later in the week, during a 20-10 win at Charlotte, the Guilford, Conn. native scored a goal and tallied four assists for her second five-point contest of the week. Over the last three games, Root has gathered 14 assists, logging three or more in five games.
Cuviello corralled a ground ball, forced a turnover, and gathered five draw controls at No. 24 Pitt. At Charlotte, the sophomore caused a turnover, picked up four ground balls, and collected four draw controls during JMU's 20-10 victory over the 49ers.
The Dukes return to action on Wednesday, April 8, hosting No. 22 Georgetown at Sentara Park. The first draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
