HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison Athletics announced the elevation of Jake Longenecker to the role of Assistant A.D. for Marketing Strategy and Fan Engagement. This comes following a four-year stint as Director of Fan Engagement.
Â
Longenecker has led the fan engagement and marketing day-to-day efforts since March 2022 when he arrived in Harrisonburg, which has seen significant growth across all sports with JMU's move to the Football Bowl Subdivision and into the Sun Belt Conference.
Â
"Jake's dedication and commitment to the Fan Engagement team have been top-notch since his arrival in 2022," Associate A.D. for Fan Engagement and Experience Melissa Wyant said. "He's revamped the game day environment at our football games to create a first-class FBS experience for our fans, challenging us with new ideas. He's also led our team of young minds to implement new and refreshing ideas across their sports and programs. I am excited for Jake and this elevation, and I look forward to his continued growth in his new duties. I am confident he will continue to push JMU forward in new ways our fans see and feel daily."
Â
"I'm incredibly grateful for the trust and confidence that Matt Roan, Geoff Polglase and Melissa Wyant have placed in me to lead our Fan Engagement department," Longenecker said. "Working at JMU is a dream come true, and I am excited to continue to serve JMU student-athletes and the Valley!"
Â
This new role will have Longenecker expand his duties between fan engagement and the ticket office in terms of collaboration on the sales side of marketing. He will work directly with departments on calendars for on-sale dates, strategize how JMU markets and promotes these events and will take on more direct oversight of email communication as it pertains to sales.
Â
Longenecker has previous marketing and sales roles at Louisiana, as well as his alma mater, Auburn, and at Maryland.
