Julia McNeley Named Volleyball Assistant Coach

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Julia McNeley has been named an assistant coach for the James Madison volleyball program, Head Coach Lauren Steinbrecher announced on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Â

McNeley, a four-year player for the Dukes, will join Travis Magorien and Traci Plungas as assistant coaches under Steinbrecher. Â

"I am beyond grateful for Lauren and the opportunity she has given me to be working with this team," McNeley said. "I am blessed to continue to be in the program after graduation. Go Dukes!"Â Â

McNeley capped off a four-year career for JMU with Third Team All-Sun Belt honors in 2025, finishing fourth in the Sun Belt in digs (470) and ninth in digs per set (3.76). The native of Louisville, Ky., also finished with 1,183 digs, making her the 13th player in program history to eclipse that milestone and placing her seventh on the JMU career digs chart. Â
"Wow! I am beyond excited to introduce Julia McNeley as our newest Assistant Coach," said Steinbrecher. "Julia is a Duke through and through. During her playing career, she was our starting libero, team captain, and SACC president, leaving an incredible mark on our program both on and off the court. She brings an exceptional combination of energy, passion, competitiveness, and love for the game, along with a genuine ability to connect with people, challenge them to grow, and inspire them to become the best version of themselves. This is a home run hire for our program. Along with her duties as assistant coach, McNeley serves as the executive director of LUXE volleyball academy in Harrisonburg. LUXE focuses on advanced skill development, high-level competition, and the development of confident, disciplined athletes both on and off the court.
