Dukes LEAD career development program is committed to educating and helping our student-athletes grow professionally and utilizing the resources we have to offer to help them succeed in their journey to getting a career after graduating JMU.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
- Career Coaching: Career Coaching Sessions are one-on-one meetings with your certified Career Readiness Facilitator to prepare for life after college. Meeting topics include, but are not limited to: major exploration, resume review, cover letter review, LinkedIn account set-up/review, Handshake account set-up, career counseling, internship preparation, and/or interview preparation.
- Dukes Mentor Dukes: Mentorship program cultivating strong professional relationships between professionals and JMU student-athletes.
- Planned Events: Networking, internship and career placement skills are employed through various events that include career fairs and alumni socials.
- Career Treks: Two (2) career treks are hosted per year in the form of corporate partner tours, shadowing opportunities and more.
INTERNSHIPS & JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Our department educates student-athletes on career opportunities and assists them in obtaining jobs, internships and graduate assistantships prior to graduation.
