Cathy Coakley came to Harrisonburg in 2004 to join the JMU field hockey program. With the Dukes, she oversees recruiting, team operations, and camp administration.  Coakley spent 12 years coaching in college basketball with stints at the University of New Hampshire, Fordham University, and Northeastern University. She finished as conference runner-up in the America East with the Huskies in 1998 and then won the conference and advanced to the NCAA tournament in 1999.  Prior to that, Coakley coached girls basketball at Oyster River High School in Durham, N.H. and taught Earth Sciences for seven years. She led the Bobcats to back-to-back state championships and won two coach of the year awards.  Coakley also spent 12 years in a corporate business environment with a specialty in multi-store management and personnel training and development.  Coakley graduated from New Hampshire with a bachelor’s degree in geology and oceanography. She went on to earn her master’s from UNH in educational administration. In addition to her coaching duties, Coakley is also a professor and advisor in JMU’s Kinesiology academic program. | |
