Teddie Martinez is in his first season with the James Madison football program in 2026, as he serves as a defensive intern with the cornerbacks.

Martinez joins the Dukes after serving two seasons as a defensive backs coach at Stevenson University (2024-25). While with the Mustangs, he helped the program to winning conference records in both seasons. He coached Darius Thomas to 2025 Honorable Mention All-Middle Atlantic Conference honors, as the SU defense ranked second in the MAC in scoring defense (21.0). He was also assistant strength & conditioning coach for the Mustangs.

Prior to Stevenson, Martinez coached at the prep level for six years. He was on staff for two seasons at the Gilman School (2023-24), coaching the defensive backs and serving as defensive coordinator in his final season. He also coached safeties and linebackers at St. Paul’s School (2020-21) and was defensive backs and wide receivers coach at C. Milton Wright High School (2018-19).

Prior to coaching Martinez played collegiately at Monmouth, where he’s tied for third in program history with 10 interceptions. He matched the school’s single-season interceptions record in 2017, with five, to lead the Big South Conference. He finished with more than 150 career tackles.

Following his time with the Hawks, he played two seasons in Austria for the Atrium Traun Steelsharks (2021-22). He led the team with nine interceptions in 2021, helping the Steelsharks to an AFL Division I runner-up finish, and led the team with 50 tackles in 2022.

Martinez graduated from Monmouth in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education.
