Grace Hashiguchi was named assistant coach of the James Madison women's tennis program on July 28, 2023, and she completed her second season with the Dukes in 2024-25.
JMU has gone 18-26 overall in her two seasons on staff, which included a 10-13 mark in year two and a berth in the Sun Belt Conference semifinals after a gauntlet of arguably the toughest schedule in program history.Â
Hashiguchi has heavy ties to the Commonwealth, having played collegiately both at Liberty and George Mason while serving as Mason’s assistant coach during the 2022-23 season.
Â
In her lone season coaching the Patriots, she helped the team to a 10-7 overall record. She coached a pair of student-athletes to All-Atlantic 10 honors, as Paige La was a First Team honoree while Taylor Garcia was voted Second Team.
Â
Hashiguchi helped organize practice plans, led drills and planned team travel while also assisting the head coach with recruiting, visits and planning for prospective student-athletes.
Â
As a player, Hashiguchi earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 singles honors at Mason in 2022, as she went 10-5 in dual matches at No. 2 singles and 9-5 in duals from the No. 1 doubles spot.
Â
Prior to Mason, she played four seasons at Liberty, amassing 124 total wins with the Flames. Hashiguchi, a two-year team captain, was a 2018 Second Team All-Big South doubles awardee and earned All-State doubles honors in the same year. She was also a member of Liberty’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Â
Hashiguchi graduated Magna Cum Laude from Liberty in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. She also earned her master’s degree in sport and recreation studies from George Mason in 2023.
