James Troutman serves as JMU Athletics’ Associate Athletics Director for Ticket Operations, providing strategic leadership for the department’s ticketing operations, revenue generation, and customer service initiatives. In his role, he oversees all ticket office operations and staff while directing ticket sales strategies for football and basketball, including renewals, new sales, and seating allocations. Troutman manages the department’s Paciolan ticketing system and reporting, develops pricing strategies and revenue goals through sales data analysis, oversees parking pass programs connected to ticketing, and ensures financial reconciliation, audit procedures, and NCAA compliance. He also works collaboratively with development, marketing, and campus partners to advance departmental revenue and fan engagement objectives.
Troutman joined JMU following three-and-a-half years as Assistant Athletic Director for Ticket Operations at Yale University, where he oversaw ticketing for five varsity sports, supervised game-day ticket operations, and led efforts to enhance the season ticket member experience. While at Yale, he also partnered with the business office on financial reconciliation and reporting and served on the Athletics Fellowship Committee.
Prior to Yale, Troutman served as Director of Ticket Operations for the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League, overseeing ticketing operations for multiple sports and events hosted at the Adirondack Bank Center. His professional experience also includes roles as Assistant Box Office Manager at the Times Union Center, Manager of Ticket Operations and Customer Service for the Albany Empire, and multiple positions at the University at Albany, where he concluded his tenure as Ticket Manager during a period of record football season ticket growth.
Originally from the Albany, New York area, Troutman earned his degree in Sport Management from St. John Fisher College. He and his wife, Cierra, reside in the Rockingham County area.
