HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 29, 2006 -- James Madison had five different goal-scorers in a 5-1 victory over Drexel in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer Friday evening at the JMU Soccer Complex.
The win was the 200th JMU victory for 16th-year coach Dave Lombardo, who has a record of 200-131-22 with the Dukes
The Dukes went up 1-0 early in the first half when senior Sarah Cebulski (Manotick, Ontario/St. Mark's) scored from eight yards at the 39:09 mark. Sophomore Lindsay Bowers (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) was credited with the assist.
Freshman Corky Julien (Williamstown, Ontario/Char-Lan District) scored the game-winning goal at the 19:55 mark. Her unassisted shot from 16 yards ensured the Dukes' victory.
With less than two minutes left in the first half senior Natalie Ewell(Richmond, Va./James River) and freshman Jess Remmes (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) combined to raise the Dukes to 3-0 at the half. Ewell scored from one yard out after the initial shot from Remmes rebounded off the goalie.
With 11:44 left on the clock, junior Annie Lowry (Butler, Pa./Butler) scored on a seven-yard shot after receiving a free kick from sophomore Kimmy Germain (McLean, Va./Langley).
Drexel freshman Martha Lutz (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) scored the lone goal for the Dragons from four yards out with 6:51 left in the game. Â She combined with fellow freshman Heatherrae Steadman (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township), who was credited with the assist.
JMU's final goal came in the 86th minute. Lowry and Germain combined once again to score, although this time Germain scored off a pass from Lowry.
Freshman goalkeeper Diane Wszalek (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) started in goal for the Dukes and had two saves for the half. Red-shirt freshman goalkeeper Missy Reimert (Lenhartsville, Pa./Kutztown) came in for the second half and made four saves.
Drexel junior goalkeeper Kate Hartman (Bensalem, Pa./William Penn Charter) played for 76 minutes and had six saves for the evening. Sophomore goalkeeper Erica Lippitt (Marietta, Ga./Alan C. Pope) played for the
