RADFORD, Va., Oct. 19, 2007 ? James Madison University split a double dual meet on Friday evening, defeating Radford Univeristy 195.5-28.5 while falling to Gardner-Webb University 122-108 at Radford's Dedmon Center Natatorium.
JMU now stands at 2-2 in dual meets for the season and already has more dual meet victories than it did last year when the Dukes went 1-8.
"I am excited with the strides we made from our first meet,” commented head coach Samantha Smith. “We are moving forward as a whole and I'm happy in how we are approaching our races. We have some areas we can improve on technically and we will use that as motivation as we head into the next two weeks of training."
Sophomore P.J. Naber (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) picked up a pair of first-place finishes in the 100- and 200-yard freestyles. She won the 100 in 54.22 seconds and the 200 in 1:55.74.
Freshman Lisa Colapietro (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) earned her first career first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:25.98. She was also fifth in the 200 IM overall, second against Radford.
Senior Gailey Walters (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) got a win in the 200-yard backstroke against Radford while finishing second to Gardner-Webb in 2:11.96.
Sophomore Christina Gennari (Westerville, Ohio/Trinity Catholic) won the 200 butterfly against the Highlanders and came in second against the Bulldogs in 2:13.33.
Freshman Emily Konieczny (West Springfield, Mass./Granby) defeated Radford in both the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:46.50 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:14.15. She was third overall in both events.
Freshman Erika Lupacchino (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) was third in the 200 individual medley in 2:16.58 and third in the 200 breast in 2:32.71.
