CHAVEZ DOUBLE GIVES SOFTBALL DUKES VICTORY

GREENVILLE, N.C., March 3, 2007 ? Jenn Chavez (Upland, Calif./Uplad) doubled in the bottom of the seventh to knock in teammate Katie George (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) and give the Dukes a 2-1 victory over Vermont.
The game was scoreless through four innings before JMU took the lead when Amber Kirk (Hamilton, Va./Loudon County) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and teammate Kendra Johnson (Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run) scored.
Vermont tied the game in the top of the seventh inning when Hayley Crosby singled up the middle and knocked in Rachelle Eloschuk.
Pitcher Meredith Felts (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose) came into the game in relief of Branden Moss (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) who went 6 1/3 innings, giving up one run, on five hits and striking out six. Felts got out of the inning after forcing a ground out to second base and striking out the final batter.
George led off the bottom of the second with a double to right center. With one out, Chavez hit a double to left center and George scored to give JMU the win.
The Dukes take on host team East Carolina at 4:00 p.m. in the East Carolina Pirate Clash.
