PHILADELPHIA, Pa., April 12, 2008 ? The James Madison softball team split a pair of Colonial Athletic Association games with Drexel University on Saturday. Drexel got a walk-off win in game one to win 3-2, while JMU came from behind to win game two 4-1.
Madison ran its record to 20-20 overall and 4-6 in the CAA. The Dragons went to 21-12 this season and 7-4 in the conference.
In game two, the Dukes scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning after being limited to just two hits through the first six frames. Senior first baseman Jenn Chavez (Upland, Calif./Upland) started the JMU rally with a double to right center. After an intentional walk of junior second baseman Kaitlyn Wernsing (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth), junior catcher Julia Dominguez (Sterling, Va./Park View) doubled into the left field gap plating both junior pinch runner Megan Forbes (Fincastle, Va./Lord Botetourt) and Wernsing. Junior left fielder Brittney Dyson followed with her third home run of the season.
For Dyson it was her eighth RBI in the last four games.
Game two proved to be a pitcher's duel as JMU junior right-hander Jenny Clohan (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) and Drexel righty Breanna Gomez traded scoreless frames through the first 4 1/2 innings.
The Dragons finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning. Right fielder Amanda Hastings singled to center with one out and advanced to second on a ground out. With two first baseman Molly Dacey lined a 1-1 Clohan offering over Dyson's (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) head.
The run snapped a streak of 14 1/3 scoreless innings for Clohan.
