HUNTINGTON, W.Va., Feb. 7, 2009 ? Nine different individuals won events and James Madison won 14 of 17 events overall in closing the dual meet season with a 174.5-120.5 triumph over Marshall at Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.
JMU improved to 8-4 in dual meets this season in the squad's final tune-up before the CAA championships, which will take place Feb. 25-28 at George Mason.
Freshman diver Nicole Jotso (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) continued her record-setting performances this season by topping her own one-meter record with a mark of 288.00, besting her previous score of 283.05. The reigning CAA Diver of the Week also won the three-meter board with a score of 288.08.
Sophomore Lisa Colapietro (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) swept the breaststroke races, winning the 100-yard race in 1:07.90 and claiming the 200 in 2:25.45. She also swam on the winning 200 medley relay team, swimming second with sophomore Morgan McCarthy (New Castle, Del./St. Mark's), sophomore Layne Eidemiller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), and senior Meghan Heil (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) in a time of 1:50.21.
JMU's other double winner came from freshman Emily Vance (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo), who took the 100 free in 54.32 seconds and the 200 free in 1:54.12. The Dukes earned other freestyle wins from Heil in the 50 yard in 25.08 seconds and sophomore Kristen Wolla (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) in the 500 free in 5:05.68.
In the 1,000 freestyle, freshman Lauren Kranz (Clifton, Va./James Robinson) earned the victory in 10:27.38, followed closely by sophomore Emily Konieczny (West Springfield, Mass./Granby) in 10:27.80. Both times represented the top two JMU marks of the season.
The other three JMU individual wins came from McCarthy in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.52, Eidemiller in the 100 butterfly in 59.58 seconds, and sophomore Erika Lupacchino (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) in the 200 individual medley in 2:13.66.
