DUKES SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER IN DELAWARE

NEWARK, Del., March 21, 2009 ? The James Madison softball team opened up Colonial Athletic Association play with a split of Saturday's doubleheader at the University of Delaware. The Dukes lost the first game 4-3 at Delaware Field before coming from behind to win game two 6-4 in nine innings.[
JMU improved to 15-6 and 1-1 in the CAA, while Delaware brought its record to 5-9 and 1-1.
In game two, JMU took a 6-4 lead in the top of the ninth. Center fielder Brittney Dyson (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) led off with a single through the left side. After an out, Dyson stole second and scored on a two-out, RBI single by junior first baseman Shannon Moxey (Church Road, Va./Mills Godwin). Moxey scored one batter later as junior right fielder Courtney Simons (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) doubled to center field.
Senior right-hander Jenny Clohan (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) retired the Blue Hens in order in the bottom half of the inning to pick up the win. She pitched three innings of shutout relief to pick up the win and improve to 9-3. Clohan faced 11 batters, allowing two hits, no runs, no walks and struck out two.
She relieved senior right-hander Meredith Felts (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose) who pitched the first six innings, allowing seven hits, four earned runs, and she walked two and struck out nine.
Right-hander Amanda Stacevicz drew the start for Delaware, pitching all nine innings, allowing 10 hits, six earned runs, and she walked three and struck out eight. She picked up the loss to fall to 1-5.
