DUKES COMPLETE SWEEP OF DREXEL WITH 2-0 WIN

HARRISONBURG, Va., April 19, 2009 -- JMU got its second consecutive complete-game shutout and the third in its last four games as the Dukes completed a three-game sweep of conference rival Drexel on Sunday.
The Dukes downed the Dragons 2-0 at the JMU Softball Complex to improve to 26-13 on the season and 6-8 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Drexel is now 20-16 overall and 6-8 in conference play.
Senior right-hander Meredith Felts (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose) shut down the Drexel attack with seven innings of three-hit ball. The 2008 first-team All-CAA selection threw her sixth shutout of the season and the 18th of her career. She allowed just the three hits and one walk while striking out six. Drexel never advanced a runner beyond second base, and Felts only faced four batters above the minimum.
Felts is now 13-4 on the season with a 1.51 ERA.
Drexel starter Hillary Allen also pitched well as she allowed just five hits and two runs, walked one and struck out four in the loss. She fell to 9-8 on the season.
Madison finally broke through on Allen for two runs in the fourth inning. Junior right fielder Courtney Simons (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) led off the inning with a single through the right side before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt. Simons advanced to third on a single by senior third baseman Amber Kirk (Hamilton, Va./Loudoun County) before scoring on a single by freshman shortstop >
