The winning play began when junior Teresa Rynier (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) sent a ball from behind the midfield line ahead to junior Cate Tisinger (Clifton, Va./Centreville) on the right flank. Tisinger dribbled downfield and sent a pass across to Julien, who drilled a shot from near the edge of the box just inside the left post.

Towson forced overtime in the final minute of regulation play. The PK by senior Erica Marshall (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) was stopped Dukes' redshirt junior goalkeeper Diane Wszalek (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East). However, Towson freshman Cheyenne Skidmore (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) got a shot off on the rebound. Her shot deflected to Marshall, who put in the ball in the net with 42 seconds to play.
The Dukes led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by redshirt sophomore Jessica Barndt (Novi, Mich./Novi) in the 17th minute. Rynier took a free kick from the sideline near the JMU bench and lofted the ball to the far side of the goal, where Barndt re-directed the ball into the right corner of the goal.
In the 73rd minute Towson tied the game at 1-1. The tying score game on a free kick from 35 yards by Marshall that sailed over the reach of Wszalek and into the right side of the goal.
JMU regained the lead with 6:13 left in regulation. Rynier delivered the ball to Tisinger, who dribbled into the box on the left side and sent a sharply-angled shot across the goalmouth and past Tigers' junior goalkeeper Kristen Sample (Ellicott City, Md./Seton Keough). The ball hit the right goalpost and spun into the goal.
Both Wszalek and Sample finished with five saves. JMU held a 15-12 advantage in shots.
