JMU Shuts Out Towson 8-0 at Home

The Dukes ended a two-match losing streak with their first shutout of the season, upping their record to 7-3 overall while winning their first Colonial Athletic Association game of the season (1-1). The Tigers fell to 2-8 on the year and 0-2 against conference opponents.
JMU won its 20th consecutive game over Towson. It was the Dukes' largest margin-of-victory against the Tigers, besting the previous advantage of six goals, and their first eight-goal performance overall since an 8-1 victory against Ball State on Sept. 1, 2013, at home.
West led the scoring with her three goals and junior midfielder Saskia Chelmowski (Berlin, Germany/Gustav-Heinemann Oberschule) followed with two goals in the game, her second multi-goal performance of the season (two goals vs. Kent State, Oct. 28). Junior forward Erin Gallivan (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) tallied her first goal the season in the third minute of play
Junior back Loes Stijntjes (Steenokkerzeel, Belgium/Heilig Hartcollege) tallied five points off one goal and three assists. Junior midfielder Adrienne le Vatte (Port Elizabeth, South Africa/Alexander Road) added one goal and two assists for the Dukes, and senior forward Bethany Ashworth (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) assisted on two goals.
Freshman goalkeeper Sara Kraeutler (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) tallied the win in-goal for the Dukes (2-1) with her first career shutout, committing one save over the 70 minutes of play. Emilee Woodall was hit with the loss (2-8), allowing eight goals over the 70 minutes of action and committing 14 saves.
The Dukes scored on their first three shots of the day, including two in the opening 2:05 of the game. They outscored the Tigers 36-1 overall, including a 22-0 advantage in the second half, and held a 30-1 lead in shots-on-goal. JMU earned 14 corners to Towson's 0 corners, with 11 of those penalties being awarded during the second stanza.
JMU hits the road on Wednesday, October 5 for a non-conference game at Davidson. Play begins at 6 p.m. in Davidson, N.C.
