MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., Mar. 2, 2014 – West Virginia starter John Means limited James Madison to one run in seven innings and the Mountaineers pounded out 14 hits in a 5-1 victory on Sunday on the final day of the Caravelle Resort Tournament at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Stadium.

With the loss, JMU fell to 6-6 overall while WVU improved to 4-5.

Junior center fielder Kevin Husum (Panama City, Fla./Bay) and senior third baseman Ty McFarland (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashey) each had multiple hits for the Dukes. Junior Chris Huffman (Fort Defiance, Va./Fort Defiance) worked seven innings allowing 13 of the 14 hits and all five runs with five strikeouts to take the loss.

John Means earned the win for WVU after limiting JMU to one run on six hits in seven innings on the hill with four strikeouts. Two relievers finished the game with a scoreless frame apiece.

Shortstop Taylor Munden, center fielder Bobby Boyd, second baseman Billy Fleming, left fielder Jacob Rice and catcher Cameron O'Brien each had multiple hits for the Mountaineers with Munden, Boyd and Rice each driving in a run.

WVU took the lead in the third on an RBI single by first baseman Ryan McBroom and added to it in the fourth with an RBI single from third baseman Michael Constantini and a double from Munden to make it 3-0.

The best threat for the Dukes came in the sixth when Husum and McFarland led off with singles. With one out, redshirt senior Matt Tenaglia (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) singled through the right side to plate what proved to be the only JMU run. The Dukes still had two on with one out but two fly outs to left ended the inning. An RBI double by Boyd and a single by Rice in the seventh stretched the WVU lead to 5-1 to cap the scoring.

JMU will be on the road on Wednesday in non-conference play with a 4 p.m. game at VMI.
