Stijntjes Notches First Hat Trick as JMU Rolls to 8-1 win at Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – Senior midfielder Loes Stijntjes scored her first hat trick on Sunday afternoon to lead James Madison field hockey to an 8-1 victory at Longwood in the Lancers' season opener.

Stijntjes tallied all three of her goals in the second half and added two assists to finish the day with a career-high eight points. She is the first Duke to post eight points in a single game since Sept. 26, 2010, when Tori Lindsey scored eight at Delaware.

The Dukes outshot the Lancers 35-9, including a 20-1 advantage over the first 35 minutes of play. Of their 35 attempts, the Dukes put 24 shots on goal while the Lancers had five shots on goal.

Sophomore forward Hannah Hall and freshman forward Miranda Rigg each tallied the first two goals of their careers in the victory while senior forward Danni Wilson rounded out the JMU scoring with the first goal of the day.
