JMU Shuts Out William & Mary 2-0 in CAA Semifinals

NEWARK, Del. – No. 20 James Madison field hockey (13-6) earned a third consecutive berth in the Colonial Athletic Association title game with a 2-0 semifinal win over second-seeded William & Mary (9-10) on Friday night.
Freshman Lisa Lejeune scored both goals in the victory, marking her first collegiate multi-goal game. Lejeune took a backhand shot at the top of the circle in the 18th minute of the game to break the scoreless tie, and she added a corner goal in the second half, slotting it into the lower left corner.
The Dukes held the Tribe without a shot in the first half while taking seven shots of their own, and they finished with a 9-7 advantage in shots. Junior goalkeeper Sara Kraeutler earned her second shutout of the year, making five saves on the day.
Second-seeded JMU will face top-seeded No. 9 Delaware for the title on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. This marks the third consecutive year the Dukes and Blue Hens will face off in the championship game.

JMU is now 9-0 against William & Mary in the CAA semifinals. The Dukes also pushed their series lead to 36-21-6, avenging a 4-3 overtime loss from the 2016 regular season.

Freshman Lisa Lejeune scored the first goal of the game, her first goal since the opening game of the season. Her regular-season goal tied the home opener 2-2 against then-No. 13 Liberty, which the Dukes won 3-2.
