No. 20 JMU Drops 4-1 Decision to No. 9 Delaware in CAA Title Game

NEWARK, Del. – No. 20 James Madison field hockey fell 4-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association title game to No. 9 Delaware on Sunday afternoon.
The Dukes trailed by two with just under 20 minutes to play when freshman Florien Sondern sent a corner rebound into the lower left corner of the cage, cutting the deficit in half (2-1). The Blue Hens, however, sent a high-arching shot into their own cage just a few minutes later to regain the two-goal lead at 3-1.
JMU pulled junior goalkeeper Sara Kraeutler with 6:01 left in the second half for an extra offensive player, but Delaware maintained much of the possession and scored a last-minute empty-net goal to solidify the 4-1 win.
The Blue Hens held a 17-2 shot edge and 8-1 advantage in penalty corners.
JMU finishes the season at 13-7 after appearing in the CAA title game for a third consecutive year.
CAA ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS
Sophomore Sarah Floeter and freshmen Florien Sondern and Lisa Lejeune were selected to the CAA All-Tournament team.

The Dukes were ranked as high as No. 17 in the NFHCA Coaches Poll. The Dukes advanced to the CAA title game for third straight season and ninth overall under the direction of Head Coach Christy Morgan.
