JMU Preps for Fifth Straight Regional Appearance; Faces Oregon State Friday

THE GAME
- JMU makes its sixth overall and fifth consecutive Regional appearance as the Dukes were selected to the Waco Regional as part of the NCAA Softball Championship. The Colonial Athletic Association Championship will square off against the Pac-12's Oregon State on Friday, May 19.
- The Waco Regional is hosted by No. 15 seed Baylor at Getterman Stadium at Waco, Texas.
- The winner of Friday's contest advanced into the winner's bracket and will face the winner of Baylor vs. Kent State on Saturday at 1 p..m. The loser will battle the loser of Baylor vs. Kent State in an elimination game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
- For the first time in NCAA history, all 16 Regional sites will be aired on ESPN's family of networks.
- JMU has never faced Oregon State or Baylor it the program's history, making Kent State the lone opponent in the Waco Regional that the Dukes have seen on the diamond.Â
- The Dukes faced Kent State during the 2014 season at Veterans Memorial Park, where JMU fell to the Golden Flashes 4-3.
- James Madison knocked off two-seeded Hofstra 9-0 in the 2017 CAA Championship to win back-to-back conference titles for the first time in program history and earn the CAA's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
- JMU has won its last 19 matches to bring its record to 50-6, tying the program's single-season wins record that was set during the 2016 season.
- This is the fifth consecutive Regional berth for the Dukes as JMU won its first title and advanced to Super Regional last season with a win over Longwood at Veterans Memorial Park.
- OREGON STATE: Earned an at-large bid with significant wins over Arizona State, Washington, UCLA, California and Utah. Junior Alysha Everret leads the Beavers at the plate, hitting .316 with eight home runs and 45 RBIs.
- BAYLOR: Hosting its second NCAA Regional in the last four years. Finished second behind Oklahoma in the Big 12 Conference. The team brings a .325 batting average and have two hitters about the .400 mark in Lindsey Cargill (.461) and Kla Walker (.412).
- KENT STATE: Earned the Mid-American Conference bid after upending second-seeded Ohio with two shutouts in the conference tournament. The Golden Flashes are hitting .238 as a team, but senior Maddy Grimm leads the squad with a .340 mark with 19 home runs and 55 RBIs.
- The winner of the Waco Regional will face the winner of the Tucson Regional in the Super Regionals. The Tucson Regional, hosted by two-seeded Arizona, also features New Mexico State, South Carolina and Saint Francis (Pa.).
