Good only notched one strikeout during JMU's 10-2 triumph over the Phoenix to open the doubleheader slate, but the one punch out was all she needed to set JMU's single-season strikeouts record. The right-hander dealt five perfect frames as she combined with freshman Odicci Alexander for a 5-0 shutout to sweep the doubleheader. Winning both games, Good improved to 33-1 on the season, setting JMU's single-season wins record.
JMU stretched its win streak to 15 consecutive games as it improved to 46-6 with a 17-2 record in Colonial Athletic Association play. Elon stumbled to 32-20 with a 9-10 mark in league action.
Over 11.0 innings of work, Good held a 0.00 ERA as she allowed just one unearned run off six hits while striking out seven as she picked up both victories in Friday's sweep. Alexander tossed two innings of relief allowing just one run off one hit and a walk with one strikeout.
At the plate, Alexander led the Dukes with a 4-for-5 outing with a home run. She scored two runs while notching three RBIs over the two-game slate. Senior outfield Taylor Newton drove home four as she went 5-for-8 with two home runs. Newton also scored four runs of her own. Junior Jessica Mrozek tallied three RBIs with a pinch-hit home run during the series opener against the Phoenix.
Elon opened game one of the series by manufacturing an unearned run with two singles and a pass ball. Junior infielder Morgan Tolle tied it up launching the first pitch of the bottom of the first to center field for a home run. The Dukes loaded the bases with three consecutive singles before Alexander was struck by a pitch to plate a second run in the first.
JMU extend its lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth as Tolle knocked an RBI single to center field after back-to-back walks were issued to freshman infielder Madison Naujokas and freshman catcher Kierstin Roadcap.
After Good reached on a fielding error to lead off the bottom of the fifth, Newton homered to center field to push JMU's lead to 5-1. Mrozek extended the lead to 8-1 with a pinch-hit home run in the inning.
After Alexander took over the circle in the sixth inning, Elon cut JMU's lead to 8-2 with a solo home run from Carey Million. With two singles and an Elon error, JMU loaded the bases to lead off the bottom of the sixth. A sacrifice fly from senior infielder Niki Prince and an RBI single from freshman catcher Kate Gordon plated two runs to cap a 10-2 run-rule victory.
The Dukes struck first in game two as an RBI single from Newton and a two-run home run from Alexander gave JMU a 3-0 first-inning lead. Newton added a run in the bottom of the third with a solo home run to left center.
Good tossed five flawless frames before Elon knocked its lone hit of the contest with a single up the middle to lead off the sixth, but Good slammed the door with two strikeouts to help retire the side. Prince added JMU's final run in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run to left field.
Alexander tossed the final frame of the game to combine with Good for the one-hit shutout.
QUOTING COACH DEAN
"We swung the bats well all day. We stayed within ourselves. Defensively, we did a great job after the first inning of the first game. We pitched the ball well. We hit our spots, and made it tough for Elon to put anything together."

RECORD-BREAKING GOOD
Megan Good made JMU history during Friday's doubleheader as she set two single-season records. Good closed the two-game slate with seven strikeouts to bring her 2017 total to a career-best 240, which surpassed Jailyn Ford's single-season record of 233 set in 2014. Good now has 661 career strikeouts second to only Ford's program record of 815. With her 33rd victory of her junior campaign, Good broke the single-season wins record that she had set last season with her 32-3 mark. Good currently leads the nation in victories and has amassed 94 wins over her decorated career.
"She works hard," Dean said of Good's performance. "It makes my life fun. It's not a job. I get to come play and work with someone of that caliber. It's a bonus. It makes my job enjoyable."
