Dukes Sprint Past George Washington in 3-0 Romp

WASHINGTON, D.C. - James Madison erupted for 16 shots and a season-high 13 shots on goal on Sunday afternoon, rolling to a 3-0 win over George Washington to close its non-conference women's soccer slate at GW Soccer Field.

Junior Haley Crawford, senior Brittany Borum and sophomore Sophie Brause all found the back of the net for the Dukes (3-6) as they notched their second win and second shutout in as many matches, holding the Colonials (4-3-1) to just eight shots on the afternoon.

Crawford led all players with five shots, putting a season-high four on frame, while junior Claire Meiser racked up three shots on goal on the afternoon. Junior goalkeeper Hannah McShea tallied six saves in the win to post her third shutout of the season and second in a row.

HOW THEY SCORED
18' | Crawford capped a flurry of early offense with her third goal of the year, tied for the team lead, when she took a feed from freshman Hannah Coulling and buried the opener to make it 1-0.
25' | Borum doubled the Dukes' lead in short order, notching her first goal of the year when she headed home a pass from Crawford that made it 2-0 before the half-hour mark.
49' | Brause put the bow on the win just after halftime, latching onto a loose ball in the box and burying a close-range shot through traffic to notch the first goal of her career and put things out of reach at 3-0.

"The girls put forth a tremendous effort this afternoon. They executed our game plan and, more importantly, finished. We scored in a variety of ways and it felt like we played a complete game. The Dukes' 13 shots on goal on Sunday mark their highest total in a single match in nearly two years, dating back to a Sept. 23, 2016 contest at William & Mary, a match the Dukes lost, 3-0.
CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS
With her assist on the match's second goal, the 21st of her career, junior Haley Crawford climbed took over sole possession of 10th place on the program's all-time leaderboard, moving just one behind Kim Germain (2005-08) in ninth.

The Dukes will kick off their Colonial Athletic Association on the road this coming Thursday, Sept. 20, when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to face Drexel at 7 p.m. Entering league play, the Dragons will be 3-2-3 with a match still to come against Princeton on Sunday evening.
