QUICK HITS
- James Madison will take the court for the first time in nearly two weeks on Monday evening, remaining in Harrisonburg to welcome Charleston Southern to the Convocation Center for a 7 p.m. contest.
- Prior to their 12-day idle stretch around exam week, the Dukes dropped a 94-71 decision at Radford that saw junior Dwight Wilson post his second straight double-double with 16 points and 13 boards. Junior Matt Lewis and freshman Michael Christmas each joined Wilson in double figures with 18 and 17 points, respectively.
- The Dukes took a step forward in 2018-19, going 14-19 on the year, including a 6-12 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play while losing just two seniors to graduation.
- Despite the graduation of departed guard Stuckey Mosley, the Dukes return three other players who averaged double-digit scoring last season in Lewis (16.4ppg) and Darius Banks (12.3) and junior forward Dwight Wilson (10.2), who also pulled down 7.8 rebounds per contest in a breakout sophomore season.
- Prior to the season, both Lewis and Banks were named to Preseason All-CAA teams, with Lewis earning a spot on the All-CAA First Team and Banks being tabbed to the Second Team heading into 2019-20.
- The Dukes were tabbed to finish fourth in the preseason poll of the league's coaches and media members, earning three first-place votes along the way in one of the closest preseason polls in league history.
- Heading into the season, JMU welcomed a six-member freshman class, including forward Michael Christmas, Dalton Jefferson and Julien Wooden, as well as guards Zyon Dobbs, Jayvis Harvey and Quinn Richey.
- Charleston Southern enters Monday evening's matchup having won three straight matchups, including a 68-60 win at Missouri and last Saturday's 58-53 win over North Carolina Central before having taken nine days off before coming to Harrisonburg.
- Sophomore guard Dontrell Shuler runs the Buccaneer offense thus far this season, having racked up 18.0 points and 3.3 assists per contest, both tops on the team. Junior Phlandrous Fleming has averaged 6.8 boards per game while tallying a pair of double-doubles.
- Monday evening's matchup will be the 10th in the all-time series between the two schools and the first since the 1986-87 season, with the Dukes holding an 8-1 advantage in the nine games thus far.
- The series began during the 1976-77 season, the Dukes' first as a Division I men's basketball program, with the schools facing each other twice over each of the next three years, before adding an additional three games in Harrisonburg in 1980, 1981 and 1986.
- James Madison has not lost to the Buccaneers in Harrisonburg, capturing wins in all eight games on the Dukes' home court. Charleston Southern's only victory came in an 85-80 decision in North Charleston before the Dukes reeled off five straight wins in the series.
