Saturday, November 19, 2022
Kickoff: 2 p.m.
Harrisonburg, Va. | Bridgeforth Stadium (24,877)
This weekend marks just the second all-time matchup between the teams.
The Dukes and Panthers first met on Oct. 27, 2012 in GSU's only season in the Colonial Athletic Association before transitioning up to the FBS level and the Sun Belt.
JMU came away with a 28-21 victory in the game played in Harrisonburg.
Dae'Quan Scott rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown, as JMU built a 28-7 lead early in the fourth quarter before a pair of GSU touchdowns trimmed the lead to seven with 6:31 to play.
The Panthers had 56 seconds left with the ball and drove to the JMU 45 before a sack ended the game.
SUN BELT STANDINGS WITH TWO TO PLAY
Though JMU is ineligible for a bowl game and a berth in the Sun Belt Conference championship game, the Dukes can still finish with the best record in the East Division and the best overall conference record.
Coastal Carolina, which will represent the East in the title game next month sits at 6-1 with its lone SBC game remaining at JMU on Nov. 26.
The Dukes are 4-2, facing a 3-3 Georgia State team before hosting Coastal in the finale.
GSU and Marshall are both at 5-3 and could finish tied atop the East, though Coastal beat both teams.
In the West, Troy and South Alabama are both 5-1 with the Trojans holding the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Southern Miss and ULM are both 3-3 and could finish tied in the West with two more wins.
CENTEIO NAMED OYSTER BOWL MVP, SUN BELT PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Todd Centeio led JMU back to the winning track in its 37-3 blowout win at Old Dominion and was named MVP of the 72nd annual Oyster Bowl.
On Monday, he added Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this season.
In Saturday's road win, Centeio was 18-of-21 for 306 yards while rushing for 12 yards and a touchdown.
He completed his first 11 passes and threw for 206 yards in the first half alone, to build JMU a 17-0 lead.
It was the third 300-yard passing game in his last four outings.
DUKES ROLL FOR FIRST WIN OVER ODU IN FOOTBALL
Owning all three phases of the game, JMU rolled to a 37-3 victory this past Saturday at Old Dominion.
The win, which ended a three-game skid, was JMU's first in three tries against the Monarchs.
In addition to Centeio's big day, Kris Thornton made six catches for 140 yards with a pair of 40+ yard grabs.
Percy Agyei-Obese rushed for 82 yards and a score, while Kaelon Black had 88 total yards with 51 rushing and a touchdown and 37 receiving.
JMU held ODU to 227 total yards and forced four turnovers, including a pick-six by Jailin Walker, his second of the season.
The win secured a winning season for JMU in its first year competing at the FBS level.
.500 OR BETTER IN 20 STRAIGHT
JMU has produced a plethora of wins on the gridiron year in and year out.
Last week's victory in Norfolk secured a winning record for the Dukes, marking the ninth straight season they achieved the feat (2014-2022).
It also secured a .500 or better record for an astounding 20 straight seasons.
Since 2003, JMU has had a winning record in 18 of 20 seasons, finishing with 6-6 records in 2003 and 2013.
Dating back to year one of the program in 1972, JMU has a winning record in 33 of 51 seasons.

 NATIONAL AUDIENCE FOR FINALE
Next week, JMU closes the 2022 season at home when it hosts #23 Coastal Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 26.
The Sun Belt and ESPN announced this week the game will be televised nationally on ESPNU with a noon kickoff.
This will be JMU's third nationally-televised game this season and its first at Bridgeforth Stadium.
JMU and Coastal have met twice before, with the Chanticleers winning 31-27 in Conway in 2005 and the Dukes cruising 45-10 at home during the 2007 season.
Pending this week's result, next week's matchup could determine the best record in the Sun Belt East Division.
