Saturday, November 5, 2022
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Louisville, Ky. | Cardinal Stadium (65,000)
This weekend marks JMU's 12th matchup against an Atlantic Coast Conference team.
The Dukes are 2-9 all-time against the ACC.
JMU claimed a 21-17 win at Virginia back on Sept. 18, 1982 and beat Virginia Tech 21-16 back on Sept. 11, 2010.
Louisville becomes the seventh current or former member of the ACC JMU will play.
This is JMU's first game with an ACC team since the 2018 opener, when NC State won 24-13 on Sept. 1, 2018.
The Dukes have four future games scheduled in the coming years, which includes at Virginia (2023), at North Carolina (2024 and 2028) and at Virginia Tech (2025).
JMU'S RETURN TO THE BLUEGRASS STATE
While Saturday will be JMU's first game against Louisville, it is not the first time the Dukes will travel to the state of Kentucky.
This will be JMU's fifth game ever in the state, having previously played Eastern Kentucky once and Morehead State three times.
Back on Nov. 26, 2011, JMU walked off with a 20-17 victory at EKU in the opening round of the 2011 FCS Playoffs.
In that win, JMU rallied from down 17-7, with Cameron Starke drilling a 35-yard field goal as time expired.
JMU's first three trips to Kentucky came back in the 80's, as it faced Morehead State three times on the road.
Morehead State won two of three, taking a 21-18 win from JMU on Sept. 13, 1980 and a 27-24 triumph on Sept. 13, 1986. JMU claimed a 38-28 victory at MSU on Sept. 15, 1984.
CENTEIO NAMED TO QB CLASS OF 2022
Todd Centeio added yet another in-season honor, as he was selected to the Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2022.
His inclusion as one of the FBS's top-40 quarterbacks puts him on the ballot for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, which will be handed out at The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 8.
16 semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 15 and three finalists will be unveiled on Nov. 29.
Centeio has completed 121-of-189 passes for 1,780 yards, 17 touchdowns and just four interceptions, giving him a passer rating of 168.58. He has also rushed 60 times for 388 yards and five scores.
Centeio's performances helped the Dukes to a 5-1 start in games he's played in, and he set a program record in the only defeat, throwing for 468 yards at Georgia Southern to break Vad Lee's previous mark of 433.
DUKES FALL TO MARSHALL ON HOMECOMING
Marshall scored 24 unanswered points and shut down JMU's offense over the final three quarters to earn a 26-12 win in Harrisonburg back on Oct. 22. The game was played in front of a Bridgeforth-record 26,159 fans.
Khalan Laborn led the Marshall offense with 151 rushing yards and two touchdowns with a long of 61, while Cam Fancher had 159 passing yards and a score with two interceptions. Owen Porter also had 3.5 sacks to pace the Marshall defense, which limited JMU to just 247 total yards.
JMU's defense kept the Dukes in the game, which stayed a one-score game until the late stages. Taurus Jones tied his career high with 13 tackles, with a tackle for loss and fumble recovery. James Carpenter also had a career-high nine stops.
Percy Agyei-Obese ran for 96 yards, averaging 4.8 per carry to lead the rushing offense.
Billy Atkins, making his first career start, threw for 164 yards with a touchdown and four picks.
MANNING AWARD WATCH LIST FOR TODDY
Todd Centeio was also added to the midseason watch list for the Manning Award, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced on Oct. 28.
This award was named in honor of the accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning and honors the top quarterback performances in the country.
Candidates' regular-season and postseason performances are considered in final balloting.
This is his third watch list honor of the season, joining the Maxwell Award and the Davey O'Brien Award.
 MIDSEASON ALL-AMERICANS
Kris Thornton and Jailin Walker were both named Honorable Mention Midseason All-Americans from Pro Football Network on Oct. 20.
They are the first two JMU players to ever receive FBS midseason All-America nods, as the Dukes are in their first year transitioning into the subdivision.
Through seven games, Thornton has 41 receptions for 689 yards and five touchdowns.
Walker had accrued 42 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions with one being a pick-six and four breakups.
 WATCH LIST DUKES
Three JMU student-athletes have been named to a combined five major award watch lists during the 2022 season.
Todd Centeio has been named to three watch lists during the season – the Maxwell Award, the Davey O'Brien Award (QB Class of 2022) and the Manning Award.
Thornton finds himself on the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award.
Long snapper Kyle Davis was named to the Patrick Mannelly Award watch list back in August.
 DUKES IN THE POLLS
JMU's hot start to the season, which included wins in its first five games, resulted in JMU being ranked one week and at least receiving votes in four of them.
The Dukes burst into the voting after its week-three comeback at App State and jumped into the AP Top 25 for the first time after its road win at Arkansas State.
Following a 5-0 start, the Dukes broke into the Top 25 of the AP Poll, receiving 105 votes and a #25 ranking on Oct. 9.
Also on Oct. 9, JMU received 70 votes in the USA Today Sports AFCA Coaches' Poll, which served as the third team outside the top 25.
The Dukes last received votes on Oct. 16 when they garnered six among AP voters.

 WHAT'S UP NEXT
JMU closes its road schedule on Saturday, Nov. 12 with an in-state trip to battle Old Dominion.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from S.B. Ballard Stadium and will be streamed on ESPN+.
ODU leads the series 2-0, winning 23-20 in 2011 in Norfolk and claiming a 38-28 victory in 2012 in Harrisonburg.
This is also the first time the teams will compete as part of the TowneBank Royal Rivalry Challenge. Through six matchups this fall across all sports, JMU leads ODU, 4.5-1.5.
