HARRISONBURG, Va. — The College of Charleston came back from a 20-point deficit to top the James Madison women's basketball team 71-69 Friday afternoon at the Atlantic Union Bank Center. Charleston improves their record to 14-10 (6-7 CAA) while JMU drops to 11-13 (7-6 CAA).
The Dukes led by 20 early in the third quarter, but Charleston went on to outscore JMU 48-30 in the second half to come out on top.
Kiki Jefferson led JMU in scoring with 20 while
Jaylin Carodine registered her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Statistically Speaking
- The Dukes were a perfect 25-for-25 from the foul line. Today's free-throw shooting is a new school record for most made free throws when shooting 100% from the line.

Jamia Hazell added 11 points while
Madison Green chipped in 10.
- JMU held a 37-31 advantage on the boards.
- The Dukes had no assists in the second half.
First Quarter: JMU 19, CofC 12
- Charleston opened the game on a quick 5-0 run, but Carodine put a stop to it with her coast-to-coast layup.
- JMU ended the quarter on a 10-0 run, capped off by a three from Green on which she was fouled and went on to score the free shot.

Annalicia Goodman was strong in the post in the opening frame, collecting six points on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting.
Second Quarter: JMU 39, CofC 23
- JMU used an 11-0 run to take a 30-12 lead four minutes in to the second stanza.
- The Dukes went 3-for-3 from long range, with Hazell,
Brianna Tinsley and
Steph Ouderkirk all collecting a three-pointer.
- Charleston didn't score until the 5:56 mark when they knocked down a pair of foul shots.
- JMU ended the quarter outscoring Charleston 20-11 to hold a 16-point lead at the half.
Third Quarter: JMU 51, CofC 44
- Charleston controlled the third quarter as the outscored (21-12) and outrebounded (11-6) the Dukes.
- JMU ended the quarter shooting 4-of-13 from the floor and 0-of-5 from long range.
- The Cougars, however, went 9-for-18 from the field and 2-for-5 from beyond the arc.
- The Dukes were up by as much as 20 at the start of the quarter, but Charleston kept chipping away to cut their deficit to as little as five.
Fourth Quarter: CofC 71, JMU 69
- The Cougars continued to climb back, bringing themselves within two points multiple times.
- It wasn't until 2:37 when Jenna Annecchiarico made two foul shots to tie the game at 63.
- Annecchiarico would be the one to give Charleston the lead with another pair of free throws just 36 seconds later.
- Jefferson knocked down a much needed three-pointer with 1:19 left to play, putting the Dukes up 66-65.
- However, the Cougars went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe in the final minute to take a five-point lead.
- Green scored a three as the buzzer sounded but it wasn't enough to put JMU back on top.
