Dukes Set Record in Game Two of Radford Double Feature

RADFORD, Va. – James Madison softball split the day in a pair of games against Radford, having lost 10-2 in the first game before bouncing back with the single inning home run record in a 14-2 victory over the Highlanders at the Radford Softball Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

The Dukes end the day with a record of 9-13 while Radford moved to 10-13 on the year.

James Madison recorded nine home runs across the two games while Jasmine Hall and Lexi Rogers each notched their first career home runs.

GAME 1: JMU 2, Radford 10
Radford started off strong with five runs in the bottom of the first inning. J. Hall responded for the Dukes in the top of the second with her first collegiate homer.

The Highlanders continued to put runs on the board, taking a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth. An RBI single from Hannah Shifflett in the top of the fifth gave the Dukes their second run of the game. However, a three-run double from Radford in the bottom of the sixth allowed the Highlanders to claim a 10-2 win.

Four pitchers stepped in the circle for the Dukes, recording four strikeouts.

GAME 2: JMU 14, Radford 2
The Dukes were the first to get on the board in the top of the third when Shifflett hit a two-run homer to left center. Radford responded with a pair of RBI singles to tie up the game at two in the bottom of the inning.

J. Hall put JMU back on top when she hit her second career home run in the top of the fourth for the Dukes' second homer of the game.

James Madison had a powerful fifth inning, tallying six homers to break the NCAA record for most home runs in a single inning.

Shifflett started it off for the Dukes with a homer to center field before Emily Phillips hit a two-run shot to left center. Rogers, Hannah Hennessy, and Hallie Hall each added a home run in the inning to put JMU up 14-2.

The Dukes racked up eight homers in the win to tie the school record set last year against Rhode Island.Â

Alissa Humphrey pitched all five innings for the Dukes, throwing eight strikeouts and just one walk.
