Dukes Fall to College of Charleston in Friday Match Up

CHARLESTON, S.C. – James Madison softball dropped the first game of the weekend series at the College of Charleston, falling 4-1 on Friday.

The Dukes (16-21, 5-5 CAA) out-hit the Cougars (9-28, 3-6 CAA) by a 5-3 margin, but were unable to pull out the win.
Â
Kayla Boseman recorded two hits for JMU, while Alissa Humphrey tallied five strikeouts and only allowed three hits.
Â
Hannah Shifflett, Hallie Hall and Lauren Bernett all added a hit each for the Dukes. Shifflett also notched the sole run for JMU when she came home on a double steal in the top of the third.

Charleston took a four-run lead in the bottom of the fifth with a string of RBIs. Shifflett was able to get on base in the top of the seventh, but the Dukes were unable to erase the deficit.

JMU will stay down in Charleston for a doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday to round out the series. Â
