Dukes Fall to UNCW in Rubber Match

WILMINGTON, N.C. – James Madison softball fell 3-1 to UNCW on day two of the weekend series at Boseman Field.

The Dukes fell to 15-15 (4-2 CAA) while the Seahawks improved to 22-7 (4-2 CAA).
Â
Both teams were strong on defense through the fifth inning as the game remained scoreless. The Dukes were the first to get on the board thanks to a homer by Hannah Shifflett in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, UNCW was able to send in three runs to take the lead. JMU was unable to respond in the seventh and the Seahawks took the win of the final game in the three-game series.

Alissa Humphrey pitched four strikeouts across 5.1 innings.

The Dukes will travel to Charlottesville on Wednesday, Apr. 6 to take on Virginia at 6:00 p.m.
