HARRISONBURG, Va. – A first-place finish in the 50 Free and a top-10 time in the 500 Free highlighted the first day of the three-day Navy Invitational for James Madison swim & dive on Thursday at Lejeune Hall on the campus of the U.S. Naval Academy.

Senior
Jamie Cornwell won the 50 Free with a time of 22.74 after setting herself up with the top prelim time in the morning. Sophomore
Madison Wimmer swam a time of 4:52.00 to take third in the 500 Free A Final, ranking herself sixth in the event in program history. The time was also a lifetime best for Wimmer.

The Dukes began the night by taking third in the 200 Free Relay, as the team of freshman
Emory Hill, senior
Alex Volk, Wimmer and Cornwell swam a time of 1:32.32.

Wimmer was not the only Duke to achieve a lifetime best in the 500 Free, as sophomore
Maddy Coombs swam a time of 4:56.77 in the A Final and junior
Riley Bridgman swam a time of 4:57.89 in the B Final. Freshman
Tiffany Folcomer recorded a time of 2:04.68 in the 200 IM for a lifetime best, finishing third in the B Final. Another freshman recorded a lifetime-best time as well, with
Emma Dougherty finishing second in the C Final of the 50 Free with a time of 23.75.

In the second relay of the night, the Dukes' top team of senior
Sarah Pauley, Bridgman, Volk and Cornwell swam a time of 3:45.30 to finish seventh in the 400 Medley Relay.

To close out the night, senior
Maddie O'Mera finished seventh on the 3-meter board with a score of 235.65.

The Dukes will return to the inside of Lejeune Hall at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Nov. 21 for prelims on day two, with finals to follow at 6 p.m.
