FAIRFAX, Va. – Down five runs at multiple points in the game, James Madison baseball fought back to come within a run of George Mason in the ninth inning, ultimately falling, 11-10, on Tuesday afternoon at Spuhler Field.

The Dukes fell to 12-25 and had their six-game win streak in the all-time series snapped, while the Patriots moved to 24-13.

At the plate, freshman
Jack Anderson led the way with a season-best 3-for-4 performance and added a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Sophomore
Griffin Madden started on the mound and went 1.1 innings, allowing four runs.

How It Happened
First Inning
A groundout brought home the first run of the game, as George Mason added a second run on a single to take a 2-0 lead.

Second Inning
Anderson hit his first home run of his career on a 1-0 pitch, cutting the Patriots' lead in half at 2-1.

GMU responded with three runs on a two-run single and a sacrifice fly to retake the lead, 5-1.

Third Inning
An unearned run scored by George Mason added a run to its lead and made it 6-1.

Fourth Inning
The Dukes led off the fourth with back-to-back singles from senior
Coleman Calabrese and junior
Jackson Tone. A throwing error on the catcher allowed a run to score before Anderson lined a single up the middle to add another run to make it 6-3.

George Mason responded with an unearned run, giving the hosts a 7-3 advantage.

Fifth Inning
Sophomore
J.P. Williams scored for the Dukes to make the score 7-4, singling to lead off the inning. He moved to second on a passed ball before a double from junior
Wyatt Peifer plated him home.

Sixth Inning
The led for GMU was extended to five again, as a solo homer from Owen Clyne and an RBI double later in the inning made it 9-4.

Seventh Inning
Peifer drove in a run on a groundout to cut into the deficit for JMU and make it 9-5.

A single knocked in a run for the Patriots to push the lead up to 10-5.

Eighth Inning
Freshman
Reece Moody doubled to lead off the inning before scoring on a single from Anderson. A hit-by-pitch and a walk loaded the bases to allow Anderson to score and make it 10-7 on a passed ball.

Jake Butler gave George Mason a run back with a solo shot to make it 11-7.

Ninth Inning
Leading off the inning with a walk and an infield single, the Dukes added a run on a single from senior
Ryan Dooley to cut the deficit to three. Two batters later, junior
Maddux Fleck connected on a two-run single to bring the Dukes within one at 11-10.
