ATLANTA - After being named a nominee for the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team in mid-July, James Madison quarterback Blake Kendall added Wuerffel Trophy Watch List honors to his name, the organization released Thursday afternoon.
The Wuerffel Trophy is college football's premier award for community service and one of the most meaningful awards in collegiate sports, named after 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback and Florida Gators great Danny Wuerffel.
This is the third-straight season a Duke has been named to the list, as former JMU student-athletes Jacob Dobbs and Camden Wise were honored for their good works before the 2024 and 2023 seasons, respectively.
Kendall, a Wellington, Fla., native, has made his presence known within the community in the Valley in a collection of service activities. This includes leading a food donation drive for local elementary schools, participating in reading and field days, and volunteering his time every year with JMU's Be the Match Bone Marrow blood drive.
He most recently connected with the family of John Paul Marci, a JMU football superfan and terminally sick child, who the Dukes honored in a special moment at the 2025 Spring Game and have held him in attendance at team practices. Kendall and the quarterbacks also spent time with John Paul and his family again this month.
Being named JMU's Doug West Scout Team Offensive MVP in 2024, Kendall played in two games last season, including making his collegiate debut versus Coastal Carolina and playing against Western Kentucky in the Boca Raton Bowl.
